A New Committee Formed to Represent the Unique Needs of the Early Career Community

Ashley Parks and Bryan Clark, Co-Chairs, SETAC North America Early Career Committee

Are you at the beginning of your career? Whether you are a student about to graduate, a post-doc or you have taken the first steps on a new career path, we know you face a unique set of challenges as you go through this time of transition. Did you know that there is a brand new committee formed by early career members just like you to help you navigate this stage of your life?

The mission of the SETAC North America Early Career Committee is to enhance the experience of early career scientists in the SETAC community. We want to create a space for those scientist just starting their careers to network and increase their engagement in the society and to help SETAC understand how to best serve and support the unique needs of our community at this career stage.

There are many ways to get involved and to have your voice be heard, and everyone is welcome. Visit the group page, sign-up as a member and participate in the forums. We want to hear from you about how to make SETAC the best possible organization for early career scientists.

Early Career Social at SETAC Minneapolis

To help kick off the formation of the Early Career Committee, we invite you to the first annual Early Career Social, which will be held from 6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. on Monday, 13 November, in the Seasons Room during the SETAC North America 38th Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This will be a chance for you to get together informally with other people going through the same transition and make new connections, all while enjoying some finger foods and beverages. We’ll also have some optional activities to help you meet and chat with new people. Please sign up for this event when you register for the meeting – it can be found under the “Courses and Other Opportunities” section of registration. Tickets are only $10! We will see you there!
