International Scientific and Practical Conference “BRICS Water Forum”

The international scientific conference “BRICS Water Forum” was organized for the purpose of discussing problems of sustainability of water resources and debating the associated urgent global issues. The forum was held from 29–30 September 2016 in Moscow at the Higher School of Economy. BRICS countries are represented by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Presentations in different fields of sciences and management (e.g., water resource management, water quality, wastewater treatment technologies and economy) were provided as platform presentations, followed by a panel discussion with scientists, managers and representatives from government agencies of the five BRICS countries.

Prospective joint projects and possible sources of funding for sustainable water resources were also discussed.

Outcomes from the conference included:

  • There is a need to form a single scientific and expert community of the BRICS countries in the field of water resources
  • Additionally, there is a need to identify potential for developing joint surveys, development of transfer of water resource technologies for the water and related sectors
