What You Need to Know for Nantes

Attendees of the SETAC Europe 26th Annual Meeting, which will be held from 22–26 May, will be welcomed immediately as they arrive in Nantes, France. The city will host information kiosks for meeting participants, and attendants will be available to help with directions to the congress center, La Cité, or to answer any other questions about the city, public transport, taxis, and more. The kiosks will be available on the following dates:

At the Train Station
(The congress center is a brief 5-minute walk from the train station. Please take the south exit, Sortie Sud.)

  • Sunday, 22 May, from 4:00 p.m.–5:30 p.m.
  • Monday, 23 May, from 8:30 a.m.–10 :00 a.m.

At the Airport

  • Sunday, 22 May, from 4:00 p.m.–5:30 p.m.
  • Monday, 23 May, from 9:30 a.m.–11:00 a.m.

Public Transportation

Attendees can pick up a free pass for TAN, the Nantes public transportation system, at the SETAC registration desk at the congress centre. The passes are valid from Sunday, 22 May, through Saturday, 28 May. Please note that we cannot replace lost passes. The TAN mobile app, available in the Apple and Google Play stores, features route information and a public transportation map.

The SETAC Nantes mobile app, also available in the Apple and Google Play stores, provides access to the daily schedules, tracks and sessions, abstracts, important links and much more. This great tool helps attendees stay up to date and helps them keep track of important events!

To stay connected during the annual meeting, attendees can use the wireless connection at the convention center using the following credentials:

Opening Ceremony Schedule

The Opening Ceremony of this year’s meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday in the Great Auditorium featuring the following program:

  • Music and dance performed by the Cercle du Clisson
  • Welcome speeches by the meeting chairs, French government officials and formal opening of the meeting
  • The keynote lecture will be presented by Thomas Maes with Cefas, UK, on “The Plastic Tide ”
  • SETAC Awards Ceremony honoring the 2016 winners

Mentees’ and Mentors’ Rendezvous

Mentors and mentees will gather at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, 22 May, at the SETAC registration desk. The SETAC Europe mentorship program matches first-time attendee and mentors, who are long-time SETAC members and SETAC Europe annual meeting participants. A match is based on professional interests and other preferences indicated when signing up. The SETAC office will send contact details prior to the meeting to the participants of the program, so they can get in touch with their mentor or mentee and make arrangements prior to arriving in Nantes. SETAC mentors will be recognizable wearing the owl logo on their badges.

Science Slam

Let’s watch scientists presenting their research in a very creative and exciting way. The SETAC Science Slam will take place from 4:30 p.m.–6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 25 May, in Auditorium 800. A lot of fun is guaranteed!

The Reddit Ask Me Anything will be held from 2:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 24 May, at the SETAC Square. Any member interested in volunteering to answer scientific questions on the online platform is welcome to stop by.

The Student Advisory Council (SAC) will organize a Tweetup from 5:40 p.m.–6:10 p.m. on Wednesday, 25 May, at the SETAC Square.
