Laurentian Chapter 20th Anniversary and Annual General Meeting Update

Ryan Prosser, SETAC Laurentian Chapter President

The SETAC North America Laurentian Chapter is holding their 20th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday, 19 June, at the University of Ottawa in the Canadian capital. The theme of the meeting is "Laurentian SETAC 20 Years in the Making: Reflecting on Our Past and Working Towards a Greener Future." This meeting is a great opportunity for professionals to present and hear about the latest work in environmental toxicology and chemistry going on in the province of Ontario. The AGM is a unique opportunity for students to present their work in the form of a poster or platform presentation to a smaller group of friendly colleagues, which is great preparation for those larger meetings, e.g., SETAC Salt Lake City. There will be student awards for best poster and platform presentations at the Master's and Ph.D. level as well as student travel awards. There will also be fun pre- and post-AGM social events, so attendees can catch up with old friends and make new ones in the SETAC community.

Plenary Speakers

An exiting highlight of the AGM are the three exceptional plenary speakers, which include:

  • Vance Trudeau, University of Ottawat will present “Neuroendocrine Disruption: More Than Hormones Are Upset by Environmental Contaminants”
  • John Purdy, Abacus Consulting
  • Mark Bonnell, Environment Canada, will discuss “The Last 20 Years of Ecological Risk Assessment: What Have We Learned and What Do We Need to Learn?”

Short Course

Leana Van der Vliet, Environment Canada, and Michelle Bowman, Forensecology, will hold a short course titled “Environmental Statistics: Power Analysis, Ordination, and Cluster Analysis” on Thursday, 18 June, in association with the AGM.

Early bird registration and abstract submission are now open, and they will run until 25 May. Regular registration will continue from 26 May until the event. For further information, visit
