Celebrate the SETAC Europe 25th Annual Meeting in Barcelona

Carlos Barata, Spanish National Research Council [CSIC]

It is a great pleasure to invite you to the SETAC Europe 25th Annual Meeting, “Environmental Protection in a Multi-Stressed World: Challenges for Science, Industry and Regulators,” which will be held from 3–7 May 2015 in Barcelona, Spain.

Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain and located on the Mediterranean coastline. It is surrounded by the Llobregat and Besòs rivers on the west and east, the sea to the south and Tibidabo mountain to the north. Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia, a Spanish region with its own culture and language. The city is one of the preferred destinations in Europe for congresses and tourism thanks to its Mediterranean climate, modern art and architecture, and excellent transportation, housing and food options. You can be assured of a vibrant city life. The Costa Brava and the Pyrenees are also in easy driving distance.

SETAC Europe annual meetings have been growing since 1991. Next year, we hope to welcome 2,500 attendees.  The meetings have always been a place for government, business and academia to discuss issues related to environmental toxicology and chemistry. In Barcelona, we want to pay special attention to technological and management aspects of environmental resources. The annual meeting offers five days of oral presentations, special symposia, poster sessions, invited speakers, social events and exhibitions. In Barcelona, SETAC Europe will celebrate its 25th anniversary with several joyful social events.

The scientific programme consists of nine tracks for parallel sessions and on track for special sessions:

  • Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecotoxicology
  • Ecosystem Responses and Services Under Multi-Stress Conditions
  • Analysis, Fate and Behaviour of Contaminants
  • Identification and Prioritization of Emerging Contaminants
  • Characterization, Fate and Effects of Nanomaterials
  • Exposure and Effect Modeling and Predictive Toxicology (Environment and Human)
  • Life Cycle Assessment and Sustainability
  • Risk Assessment, Regulation and Public Perception
  • Pollution Prevention and Remediation
  • Special Sessions

The online module for session proposals is now open. The deadline for submissions is 15 August 2014. After this, all session proposals will be evaluated by the program committee, and acceptance notifications will be sent by the end of September.

Please note, SETAC Europe supports the involvement of young scientists in the annual meeting program and therefore would like to invite senior session organizers to encourage younger colleagues to come forward and chair or co-chair a session.

Short course submission is now also open. Please consider submitting a proposal before the 26 November deadline.

We hope to see you in Barcelona next May!
