North Atlantic Regional Spotlight: North Atlantic Chapter

The SETAC North Atlantic Chapter held its 20th Annual Meeting and Short Course from 10–13 June in Amherst, Mass. The two-day short course, "NRDA II – Translating Ecological Injury to Compensation" was offered to participants. Through lively lectures and discussions, the instructors from Cardno-Entrix, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Department of Interior and NOAA illustrated the science behind natural resource damage assessments (NRDAs) as well as the interactive and cooperative nature of the NRDA process.

Members support the SETAC journals Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry and Integrated Environmental Assessment and Management by submitting and reviewing manuscripts and reading and applying the published articles. The journals, in turn, focus efforts on increasing their impact in the field. They do this by accepting cutting-edge research on current scientific topics of national and international importance; promoting published articles through traditional press releases, social media sites, blog postings and marketing materials; introducing new article types that highlight or debate emerging issues; and creating a positive publishing experience for authors by offering top-notch processes and services and responding to evolving author needs.

Only one day left to submit a session proposal for the SETAC Europe 25th Annual Meeting from 3-7 May 2015 in Barcelona, Spain. Visit the SETAC Barcelona website for more information. Early registration ends 23 September for the 10th SETAC Europe Special Science Symposium, which will be held from 14–15 October 2014 in Brussels, Belgium. The symposium will focus on “Bioavailability of organic chemicals: Linking science to risk assessment and regulation.” Poster abstracts can be submitted until 15 September.

Integrated Environmental Assessment and Management (IEAM) is accepting nominations for senior editors in the areas of decision analysis, life cycle assessment, sustainability, climate change, ecological restoration, water resource management, human health and ecological risk assessment, and environmental governance for 2015–2017. The deadline to submit a nomination is 1 October. View full description and instructions.
