UNEP2013 Update on SETAC's Global Mercury Partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme

Ecotoxicity studies from the academic research are not used to the extent they could be used in environmental risk assessment of chemicals. Possible reasons for this could be guidance documents that recommend use of standard tests or that research studies are not reported in a structured way, which sometimes affects their reliability and user-friendliness.

MAgPIE First Part of SETAC Europe Workshop MAgPIE a Success!

The first part of the work-intensive SETAC Europe workshop on "Mitigating the Risk of Plant Protection Products in the Environment" took place from 22–24 April 2013 in Rome, Italy. The objective of this workshop is to help achieve a better harmonization within Europe in the area of risk mitigation measures to the environment and related risk assessment and management.

Over the past 10–15 years, a significant amount of work has been done by the scientific, regulatory and business communities to assess the potential impact of pharmaceuticals and veterinary medicines on the environment and public health. The upcoming session in Glasgow on this topic will review current progress in understanding and predicting the environmental exposure, bioavailability and adverse effects on ecological and human health of pharmaceuticals and veterinary medicines in different compartments, e.g., surface water, groundwater, sediment and soils.

Vote today for the SETAC Global Environmental Photography Contest! Winners will be announced Tuesday, 14 May at the SETAC Europe 23rd Annual Meeting in Glasgow.

The SETAC North America Board of Directors is seeking to engage members in a carbon offset initiative for the SETAC North America 34th Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tenn. Up to 7,000 USD in direct funding can be requested. Submit proposals by 31 May. Acceptance notices will be issued 28 June.
